Halloween In Les Fonts

Just got back from Dermot and Nuria’s Halloween party out in Les Fonts – about 30 minutes north of Barcelona. It was a fun night, but got a little drunk towards the end (the night, not me).

Dermot was dressed as a polar bear (thought I thought he was a white gerbil) and Nuria was just plain sexy. They were the only two people dressed up until Mau and Lisa showed up as a fluorescent pimp and his school-girl hooker. I was so upset that I didn’t go in costume but it was totally Juls’ fault! She told me that, “It wasn’t that kind of party.” Liar! I would have totally gone in costume. I had spent the past couple weeks leisurely searching the web for interesting ideas. Oh well. I still looked good.

Nuria cooked a ton of amazing food and then we played roulette for about an hour. The beer, rum, whiskey, wine, and absinthe slowly disappeared and we found ourselves singing horrendous renditions of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” and “Hey Jude” to Dermot’s karaoke machine. We then went ‘a capella’ for Billy Joel’s “Piano Man”. Did you know that the British pronounce his name “joe-ELL” instead of “JOLE”? Yeah, two syllables! What are they thinking?

The night ended with a quick round of charades and then we had to dash to catch the last train home. Some of us should have dashed faster than others because Juls and Joan missed the train by about 10 seconds. They had to turn around and spend the night at Dermot’s house along with the pimp and prossy.

When Jan and I got home, there was an absolutely filthy car parked on the sidewalk in front of our house. Someone had written with their finger on the hood “I wish my girlfriend was this dirty” in English. That made me laugh.
